Houston Baptist University
Founded in 1960 as a university stressing quality of life as well as quality of learning, HBU wanted to make energy efficiency improvements and building upgrades that would modernize facilities for the campus community, protect its budget, and reduce its carbon footprint.
As part of this effort, Griffith Engineering provided mechanical and electrical design services for the conversion of the campus constant volume chilled water system to a variable volume chilled water system. The retrofit included verifying capabilities and making modifications to the central chilled water plant. Moreover, all of the buildings served by the main central plant had to be modified with pressure independent 2-way valves, and chilled water bypass capability where necessary.
