Project Description

White Sands Missile Range
White Sands, NM

White Sands Missile Range comprises nearly 3,200 square miles stretching across five counties of desert climate area of New Mexico, and is touted as being the largest military installation in the United States. Its photovoltaic solar array is the largest PV system operating on U.S. Army land, and enabled WSMR to reach 10.8 percent renewable energy by the start of 2013.

GEI served as the primary engineer for investment grade energy audits, ECM identification, building energy modeling, and report preparation. Project features include:

▪ 4.4MW photovoltaic solar array on 40 acres

▪ Auditing yielded a number of energy conservation measures that were used to help fund the creation of the PV field.

▪ $25,000,000 total project cost.

▪ 2,000,000 square feet.

▪ $1,900,000 in annual energy savings identified.
