Project Description

Veach Baley Federal Building

This project involved upgrades to a chiller plant including the replacement of three reciprocating chillers at this existing 270,000 square foot federal office facility. GEI was chosen to design the project as part of an 5 year IDIQ contract with GSA in North and South Carolina.

  • The existing chillers served a National Climate Data Center and were inefficient and near the end of their useful life. The chillers rejected head via a closed-loop with two air-cooled condensers per chiller.
  • The new chillers feature Turbocor compressors and have a full load efficiency of 0.577 kW/ton.
  • Increased reliability for support of critical system.
  • incorporation of variable speed pumping technology.
  • Waterside economizer system added.

GEI served as the primary design consultant by providing mechanical and electrical engineering design services for this project and provided structural engineering through a subconsultant.
